Join us for a joint venture of learning and monitoring our local wetland resources! The Land Trust and the New Canaan Nature Center are forming a team of citizen scientists to monitor or local amphibians and we need your help to collect information on frogs and toads heard calling at wetlands across the United States.
New Canaan Nature Center and the New Canaan Land Trust are looking for volunteers to join a national network of chapters and trained volunteers that provide valuable science-based information on frogs and toads and their wetland habitats for land managers, researchers, and decision-makers.
FrogWatch provides the opportunity for families to share in the excitement of discovery while contributing to a greater scientific cause.
FrogWatch USA is a long-term frog and toad monitoring program whose data:
Detect and describe local species diversity;Suggest shifts in species diversity, range, and seasonal timing (phenology); andMay serve as an indicator of wetland health.
If you are interested in joining our community FrogWatch team you must attend a 2 hour training session that will provide you with all the background information necessary – collection methods, determining what frogs are you listening too, and discover local wetlands that need monitoring. No previous experience is necessary, and families are encouraged to participate.
Interested volunteers MUST attend one of the three dates listed below.
Trainings will be held at the New Canaan Nature Center. The New Canaan Land Trust will help guide volunteers to specific areas on Land Trust property where there is a high likelihood for identifying frogs throughout the spring and summer.
Required Training Dates and Times:
Friday 3/17 from 1:00-3:00pm
Tuesday 3/21 from 10:00-12:00pm
