Saving the Beech Forest: Disease, Loss, and Restoration at Colhoun Preserve

Saving the Beech Forest: Disease, Loss, and Restoration at Colhoun Preserve
Date and Time: Monday October 26th at 6:30 PM
Location: New Canaan Library, 151 Main Street, New Canaan, CT 06840
The program will highlight the treatments and forest management strategies being explored at New Canaan Land Trust's Colhoun Preserve, what Beech Leaf Disease could mean for the future of our forests, and how these strategies can be applied to help manage beech trees and woodlands on your own property.
Join Chris Rizzo and Dr. Cameron McIntire to learn why American beech trees are so important to our forests, how Beech Leaf Disease is affecting them, and what can be done about it. Chris, a Yale School of the Environment forestry graduate student and NCLT conservation intern, spent the summer developing a management plan for the Land Trust’s Colhoun Preserve. Dr. McIntire, a plant pathologist with the U.S. Forest Service, visited Colhoun this summer to see the project firsthand and provide guidance on NCLT’s approach to Beech Leaf Disease. This presentation will not be recorded.
