Catharine Sturgess, Vice President

Catharine and her husband, Jeffrey, moved to New Canaan in 1983 and raised their two children here. The open, rural nature of the community 35 years ago was very attractive, given her childhood on a small, non-working farm outside of Cleveland, Ohio. While Executive Director of the New Canaan Nature Center from 2002-2007, Catharine’s professional understanding and appreciation of open space preservation and land management evolved. She believes strongly that the protection of our native habitats and natural resources is invaluable for the health of all. Catharine holds a BA in psychology from Vassar College and worked as a financial analyst with Donaldson, Lufkin, Jenrette and the Mutual of New York. In her years in New Canaan, Catharine has been an active volunteer serving on the boards of many organizations including the Nature Center, Garden Club, Community Foundation, and League of Women Voters.
