Aaron Lefland, Executive Director

Aaron joined the New Canaan Land Trust in 2017 after completing his Master of Forest Science at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, now called the Yale School of the Environment. There, he studied the sustainable management of New England forests, and conducted research on the demographics of Hickory species across the landscape of the Northeastern United States (related publication HERE). His previous work experience includes managing a small-scale community forestry program outside of Boston and conducting ecological research examining long-term forest dynamics (related publication HERE).

Since joining the Land Trust, Aaron has helped to grow the organization in both size and impact. In addition to successfully leading the organization through accreditation, Aaron has grown awareness and support for the Land Trust’s work by expanding programs, building partnerships, and making the Land Trust’s preserves more accessible to the community. The outdoors have always been an important part of Aaron’s life and he enjoys finding opportunities to share his love for nature with others.
