John Winter

John Winter is the Executive Director of the Land Trust. He was raised in Trumbull and after several decades in private industry, government, and non-profits in New York and Vermont has returned to Connecticut to be near family and continue his land conservation career. John has run land trusts for more than 15 years. These organizations have protected thousands of acres of forests, wetlands, meadows, and other open spaces. John specializes in land acquisition and stewardship and comes to the Land Trust to help us reach our goal of doubling our holdings to 800 acres by 2040. John is the co-author of three books on environmental management. He holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from Duke University’s School of the Environment and a B.A. from Muhlenberg College. He is also trained in permaculture. In his free time, John likes to travel, and enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending time with his family. He aspires to one day play the piano.
