New Canaan’s Pollinator Pathway

In June of 2019, New Canaan pledged to become part of the Pollinator Pathway, a pesticide-free corridor of public and private properties that provides native plant habitat and nutrition for pollinators. A large portion of Fairfield, Westchester, and Putnam Counties have already pledged to leverage and connect pollinator pathways through our landscape.

Our town now joins many of our neighbors who are hard at work planting demonstration pollinator gardens on public open spaces and encouraging homeowners to join by planting natives, saying no to pesticides, and rethinking their lawns.

New Canaan’s partner organizations include the New Canaan Land TrustNew Canaan Library, Grace Farms, Planet New Canaan, New Canaan Nature Center, New Canaan Garden Club, New Canaan Beautification League, The Glass House, and New Canaan Department of Public Works.

But these organizations cannot build the pathway alone.

We need YOUR help to ensure that our pathway spans across town. You can join the pollinator pathway by making your yard safe for birds, bees, and butterflies. The goal is to connect a pathway, and everyone in town is encouraged to “bee” on it.

The Pollinator Pathway website has a number of great resources for making your property more pollinator friendly. Check out their pages on native plants, alternatives to pesticides, garden design, and more!
