Susan Bergen is a New Canaan native and graduate of New Canaan High School. She earned a B.A. in English and History from Denison University and worked for many years in public relations and development for several nonprofits in New York and New Jersey. Over the past twenty years, Susan has served on the boards of the Newcomer’s Club, Encore, the Nature Center, and the Beautification League. She is an active member of the New Canaan Garden Club, where, as Conservation Chair, she created environmental-themed exhibits for in-house meetings and special events, and twice attended the Garden Club of America’s national environmental conference in Washington, DC. She currently co- chairs the Irwin Park committee, volunteers at Waveny Walled Garden, and writes a monthly column entitled, “Living in the Garden,” for the club’s newsletter. Susan is a life-long gardener and conservationist. She enjoys observing and photographing the natural world at eye level. She is particularly interested in exploring the relationships between native plants and pollinators and examining how everything in nature touches everything else. She is dedicated to the Land Trust’s mission of preserving open space and the habitats we live in.
