Winter Tree Identification
February 29 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
While leaves provide the best clues about the identity of a tree, there are still many ways to identify leafless trees in the winter. Join the New Canaan Land Trust on a walk through the Watson-Symington Preserve, and learn to use clues such as branching pattern, bark texture, and bud formations to identify trees in the winter. This walk will be led by New Canaan Land Trust Executive Director, Aaron Lefland. Aaron holds a master’s degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Science, and has spent most of his professional and academic life working and learning about the forests of New England.
Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and be prepared to walk on uneven surfaces.
Two, one-hour walks will be offered. The first walk will start at noon, and the second will start at 1:30
