NC Pollinator Pathway Launch

June 18 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

In exciting news, New Canaan has pledged to become part of the pollinator pathway: a pesticide-free corridor of public and private properties that provides native plant habitat and nutrition for pollinators (learn more at pollinator-pathway.org). Did you know that a large portion of Fairfield, Westchester, and Putnam Counties has pledged to leverage and connect pollinator pathways? Nearby towns who have already committed are hard at work planting demonstration pollinator gardens on public open spaces and encouraging homeowners to join by planting natives, saying no to pesticides, and rethinking their lawns.

New Canaan is committing to joining the greater Fairfield County pollinator pathway, where volunteers from supporting New Canaan conservation organizations will map a “greenway” connecting protected open spaces and work to encourage residents along this pathway to make their yards safe for birds, bees and butterflies. Though the goal is to connect a pathway, everyone in town is encouraged to “bee” on it.

Join us in this public launch and celebration and learn from Mary Ellen Lemay, Facilitator of Hudson to Housatonic Regional Conservation Partnership, along with Louise Washer, President of the Norwalk River Watershed Association, about how New Canaan can make the greatest positive impact for pollinators.

The event will be held in Christine’s Garden at the New Canaan Library

Partnering Organizations include New Canaan Library, Grace Farms, Planet New Canaan, New Canaan Nature Center, New Canaan Garden Club, New Canaan Beautification League, New Canaan Dept. of Public Works, New Canaan Land Trust
