DESCRIPTION:Join the New Canaan Nature Center’s new Senior Naturalist\, Frank Gallo\, for a series of birding and nature walks. On three Spring outings\, Frank will guide visitors around area preserves\, and open spaces. Along the way\, he will discuss the area’s natural history\, pointing out birds\, plants\, and other species. DESCRIPTION:Land trusts from Darien\, New Canaan\, Norwalk\, Stamford\, and Wilton have teamed up to bring you the first-ever Walk Your Land Trust series. Beginning in March 2022\, each land trust will host an outing to introduce visitors to their preserves. We look forward to learning from each other\, exploring our region’s open space\, and making new connections.  \nThis month’s walk will feature a tour of the Stamford Land Trust’s Helen Altschul Preserve\, and an introduction to mushroom hunting. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been mushrooming – that’s right\, it’s a verb – before\, here’s an opportunity to learn all about the wonderful and mysterious kingdom of fungi. SUMMARY:Mushroom Foraging - Two Dates
DESCRIPTION:There are many types of mushrooms in our region. Some are poisonous\, but their ecology is fun to learn about…and others are simply delicious! Ryan Bouchard and Emily Schmidt from the Mushroom Hunting Foundation are New England’s leading mushroom hunting teachers\, will lead us into the forest for a close look at local fungi in their natural habitats. They will explain the basics of wild mushroom science and safety\, and will emphasize the species of spring mushroom season that are considered “safe for beginners” to cook with. This class will show you inside a whole world of adventure that most people overlook. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				We are pleased to offer two mushroom foraging sessions \nSaturday\, May 14 from 2-4pm at Watson-Symington: REGISTER HERESunday\, May 15 from 2-4pm at Still Pond: REGISTER HERE \nRegistration is $20 per person\, and advanced registration is required. Space is limited to 20 participants per session\, and payment is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by the Land Trust or Mushroom Hunting Foundation. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About the Instructors: Ryan T. Bouchard is the author and photographer of the groundbreaking book Gourmet Mushrooms of the Northeast 2019.  Emily Schmidt also studies our local mushroom species (and wild plants as well)\, and teaches creative cooking that highlights their many unique flavors. Together\, they created The Mushroom Hunting Foundation\, and they have educated thousands of people about safely enjoying America’s incredible wild mushrooms.
