Land Use History Walk: “Learn Your Land” Series

August 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Prior to today’s suburbanization and extensive development, New Canaan’s landscape was covered with farms, pastures, and managed woodlots. Evidence of these various land uses are still visible today, and with a keen eye, one can deduce how a given piece of land might have been used over a century ago. Aaron Lefland, the Executive Director of the New Canaan Land Trust and Yale Forestry graduate, will teach participants how to pick out these clues, and discuss the profound ways that New Canaan (and most of Connecticut) has been impacted by historic land use.

Please note, participants should wear sturdy shoes, and be prepared to walk on wooded, sometimes uneven, terrain.

This event is co-sponsored by the New Canaan Library. Please register using the link, below.

If the 12pm to 1:30pm walk fills up, an additional walk will be offered from 1:30pm to 3pm.
